West Coast Rail Trails Cycle Holidays on the Wilderness Trail
Its not really that "wild" and we will be taking the 'wild' out of the wilderness for you too!
Your Package starts and finishes in Greymouth on the South Island’s West Coast.
Comfort bikes, luggage shuttles, accommodation and trail support along the way are all included in your Package. We organise it all for you, provide you with a detailed daily ride plan and provide advice with backup each day along the way. Just get yourself to Greymouth and we will do the rest. (We can also arrange your travel to Greymouth if required)
Your cycle ride is easy (grade 2) with plenty of stops along the way to see some amazing places that you cant get to by road. There are also great pubs, cafes and attractions along the cycle trail too.
Afternoon before your ride starts: Arrive into Greymouth and check into the Cycle outfitters to get fitted into your bikes.

Your Cycle Ride Package starts here:
Ride Day1: 8am We shuttle you from Greymouth to the start of your ride. If its the four day ride then we will take you to Ross. You ride the trail to Hokitika, its about 4 hours of riding. Accommodation is included
Ride Day2: You ride the trail to Lake Kaniere, its about 4 hours of riding. Accommodation is included
Ride Day3: You ride the trail to Kumara, its about 5 hours of riding. Accommodation is included
Ride Day4: You ride the trail to Greymouth. Your Cycle Package ends here with a soak in the Spa and a glass of wine included at the Outfitters base.

What we will do for you:

Provide your shuttles: We shuttle your luggage each day to the next nights accommodation and we will move you and your bikes from Greymouth to the start of the trail on the first day.
Book your accommodation along the trail: You’ll get standard accommodation that is clean and comfortable with friendly hosts located in prime spots. Linen and towels are supplied. Meals are not included in your Package price and can be purchased at in nearby your accommodation.
Provide Ride Support: Our Packages are designed to make your ride easy, comfortable and trouble free.
· We will have a chat with you to see what type of experience you want. Based on this
· You’ll have a detailed ride plan with daily ride maps prepared for you.
· There is 2 days outside of cell phone reception so you’ll also get emergency equipment, a satellite phone/Personal Locator Beacon.
· "Support" also includes shifting you along the trail for free if the weather is bad or coming to rescue you if you have a mishap. Essentially, it’s peace of mind, knowing we’re there if needed.
· You’ll also get daily updates during your ride with expected ride times, daily weather assessments and contact to make sure you don’t need anything along the way.
· Free bike swap outs if required for any reason during your ride when you hire our bikes
· You’ll get a “Meals Plan” to help you see where to get food along the trail.
· We will do a pre-ride gear check of your own gear and clothing that you bring with you to make sure you have everything you'll need to be comfortable and safe on your ride. (cycle clothing can be purchased at the Outfitters base in Greymouth with 50% off by presenting your Groupon Voucher)
Graded as EASY on the national cycle trail grading system this four day trail is smooth and wide with most sections being flat following old railway lies made during the 1800's goldrush era.
Latest trail cycles, mirror lakes, alpine views, rainforest, penguin colony, pubs & cafes. This is not about the bike, but enjoying a series of pubs, cafes, crafts and amazing natural places joined together with the bike. You can't get to these places by road, you can walk but the bike will get you around a lot more comfortably.
To make a booking select the options to the right that you want and this will display the correct price for those options.
STEP 1: choose the accommodation type you'd like. All of them have the linen, towels and bedding supplied.
Economy- basic clean comfortable. You may be in a hostel in some locations with a bunkroom.
Standard- you'll get your own room with a double bed but with a shared bathroom
Superior- ensuite bedrooms, beautiful facilities queen beds
STEP 2: Choose the ride duration. That is, how many days would you like your cycle holiday to be?. If you select the option for 2 Half days, this ride starts in Greymouth at 1:30pm (1330) and you ride out to the next town, Kumara, where you overnight. Its a beautiful flat ride with a great section through a tunnel of trees in the rain forest following an old rail line. Then the next morning you ride back the same way. If you'd rather ride further out along the trail past Kumara to the Alpine lakes and boardwalk and then be picked up by a shuttle and return to Greymouth by 12:30 pm (1330) then select the shuttle option too. The Options for 2 full days and the 3 and 4 day options all include the Shuttle Option.
STEP 3: Join a guided group. If you want to have a guide ride with you then select this option for the number of days you are riding. Joining a guided trip gets you local knowledge, information about the natural area, history and bird life along the trail and intro's to people along the way you'd likely not meet otherwise. Your guide also gives advice about your ride as you go and they provide morning and afternoon teas too. Guides are also trained First Aid officers carrying medical kits and a satellite phone for speedy backup assistance.
